How to switch from Loom, step by step
The paste-and-import part takes minutes. The steps around it — making links shareable, checking the results, and replacing old links — are what make a switch clean, especially for a team.

1.Decide what to keep
List the videos that still matter: help-center embeds, onboarding videos, sales walkthroughs, and anything linked from docs. Old one-off updates rarely need to move. A simple sheet with each video's link and where it is used saves time in step 5.

2.Make each video shareable by link
The importer can only fetch videos that play for anyone with the link. Loom answers private and workspace-only videos as "not available", so open those in Loom, set sharing to "Anyone with the link", and copy the URL again.

3.Collect the links and paste up to 500 at once
Copy share or embed URLs by hand, or install the free Chairkick Chrome extension, which collects every link from your Loom library page and hands them to the importer. Paste up to 500 links per batch; duplicates are skipped.

4.Check each import
The imports page shows progress for every video and explains failures in plain language — a mistyped link, a private video, or a deleted one. Spot-check a few long videos and their captions before moving on.

5.Replace old links and embeds
Old Loom URLs do not redirect. Swap the new Chairkick links into help articles, emails, and docs, starting with whatever customers see. For embeds, use Chairkick's embed code, then check playback in a logged-out browser.

6.Invite your team, then cancel Loom
Invite the people who record. Viewers can join for free or simply open share links without an account. Once your important links point to Chairkick, follow our guide to cancelling Loom.
What comes across — and what doesn't
The importer moves the video and the metadata Loom exposes on the share link. It does not recreate your Loom workspace, so plan the pieces in the right-hand column.

Most teams start looking for a way out of Loom after a price change. On Loom's paid plans, every Creator needs a paid seat, and the free Creator Lite role is being removed during Atlassian's integration. Chairkick charges only the people who record.

Rolling the switch out to a team
For a solo user, switching is the paste-and-check routine above. For a team, a short plan avoids broken links and confused viewers:
- Set sharing defaults first. Workspace admins can choose under Settings → Sharing whether new recordings are shared with the workspace and whether links open for anyone or only workspace members.
- Invite recorders and viewers separately. Members who record take a paid seat; viewers watch for free.
- Move high-traffic videos first. Help-center embeds and onboarding emails reach customers, so replace those before internal wikis.
- Keep Loom running until links are swapped. Cancel only after the inventory shows every important link replaced.

Frequently asked questions
How long does switching from Loom take?
Importing takes a couple of minutes of your time: copy your Loom share links, paste them into Chairkick, and the videos import in the background. Replacing old links in docs and emails usually takes longer than the import itself.
Do I have to download or re-record anything?
No. Chairkick fetches each video from its share link, so there are no MP4 downloads and no re-recording.
How many Loom videos can I import at once?
Up to 500 links per batch, and you can run as many batches as you need. Duplicate links in a batch are skipped.
Why does a Loom link say the video isn't available?
Loom gives the same answer for private, workspace-only, and deleted videos. Open the video in Loom, set sharing to "Anyone with the link", and paste the link again.
Do comments and view counts come across?
No. The importer brings the video, title, date, and available captions. Loom comments, reactions, view counts, and workspace permissions are not transferred.
Will my old Loom links keep working?
Only while the videos stay in your Loom account; they do not redirect to Chairkick. Replace important links and embeds with the new Chairkick ones before you cancel.
Can I import Cap videos too?
Yes. Cap share links work the same way as Loom links.
Will my videos keep their quality?
Yes. Imported videos keep their original resolution. Loom imports carry over Loom's captions as the transcript when available; Cap imports get a fresh transcript and AI summary.
