If your Loom bill suddenly looks different, you are not imagining it. Since Atlassian acquired Loom, several pricing and plan changes have rolled out that catch a lot of teams by surprise. Here is what actually changed and what your options are.
The free “Creator Lite” tier is gone
The free creator tier that many small teams relied on has been discontinued. Workspaces that depended on it were moved onto paid plans, and some teams only noticed when the invoice arrived.
Dormant seats can become billable
The most expensive surprise is seat math. In a per-seat model, people who were added to a workspace once and never recorded again can still be counted as billable creators. Teams with a handful of active recorders and a long tail of inactive accounts have seen their annual bill jump by an order of magnitude.
Per-seat pricing punishes occasional recorders
Loom charges per creator. If only a few people on your team record regularly, you are still paying a full seat for everyone who might. That is fine at high usage and painful when recording is occasional.
What you can do about it
- Audit your seats. Remove inactive creators before your next renewal so you are not paying for accounts nobody uses.
- Separate viewers from creators. The people who watch your videos should never cost you money. Make sure your plan reflects that.
- Compare alternatives honestly. If the new pricing does not fit how your team actually records, it is worth looking around.
This is the gap Chairkick is built for: screen recording with AI summaries and transcripts, Loom and Cap imports, and a simple rule — viewers are always free. You only pay for the people who record. If you are mid-switch, here is how to export your Loom videos first.
