Loom Starter is free and currently includes 25 recordings, a five-minute limit for ordinary screen recordings, unlimited meeting-recording length, transcriptions in more than 50 languages, comments, and reactions. The 25-recording cap is a library limit, not a monthly allowance.

Transcription and Loom AI are not the same entitlement. Starter can transcribe the spoken content; Business + AI adds automatic summaries and chapters, text-based editing, generated issues and documents, meeting notes, and other automation.

What happens at 25 recordings
Once the Starter workspace is at its limit, it cannot create another recording until someone upgrades or reduces the count to 25 or fewer. Loom’s downgrade documentation says a workspace that already has more than 25 videos keeps access to all of them after downgrading. It cannot make a new recording until it returns to the limit.
This distinction matters when leaving a paid plan: Loom does not currently say that videos above 25 are automatically deleted. Do not panic-delete important material. Inventory it, export critical copies, and decide what can be archived or removed.
How to work within Starter
- Keep each screen explanation focused enough to fit five minutes.
- Archive rather than delete videos that may still be useful; archive does not necessarily free the active limit, so confirm the counter afterward.
- Permanently delete only material you are certain is no longer needed.
- Export critical videos while the account has the required download permission.
- Use the included transcript for accessibility and search, but review names, numbers, and technical terms.
- If you record meetings, distinguish the meeting recorder’s unlimited length from the five-minute normal recording limit.

If the limit is too small
Business removes the video-count and ordinary recording-length caps and is currently $18 per user per month on monthly billing. Business + AI is $24. Annual billing can save up to about 17% and uses user tiers.
If the issue is price rather than Loom itself, first audit which people truly need paid workspace membership. Ordinary share-link viewers are not automatically paid users. The cost risk comes from workspace membership, particularly where legacy Creator Lite users are being converted to paid Creators during Atlassian integration.
Chairkick is another browser-based option, but its current offer should not be confused with a permanent free plan for new accounts. New workspaces get a 14-day Pro trial with no card. Pro is $9 per recorder monthly or $72 per recorder yearly, and people opening ordinary share links are not paid seats. Compare the complete workflow—not only a free allowance—before moving.
